a new mutant strain of Listeria monocytogenes has been discovered, and researchers are proposing its use as a Listeria vaccine.  the new mutant is resistant to bacteriophages, and while its growth is shown to be as effective as wild-type L. monocytogenes, it forms much smaller plaques and is therefore less pathogenic than wild-type.

Despite trying not to think/read about science, I couldn’t resist this:
A phage of Caulobacter crescentus that has a long filament stuck to the end of its elongated ‘head’. A new paper shows these filaments wrapping around flagella to get into cells. Really cool pictures and looks to be an interesting report!
